AHEFS was incorporated in May 2006 as a national non-profit organisation with a mandate to strengthen sustainable food systems linking health, nutrition, environment and food security innovations. The organization has since evolved into a leading interdisciplinary institution for advancing health, food systems, and climate solutions in West Africa.
